Buddy is a eleven-year-old Collie-Shepherd mix. He was born in January 1997. Mike Becvar rescued him from the Fairfax County Animal Shelter in 1998.

I adopted Buddy from the Fairfax County Animal Shelter at the end of September 1998. He was about a year and a half old at the time. His medical records indicate that he was born sometime around January 1997.
Buddy is my first dog. I had always wanted to get a dog, but it wasn't until I moved to South Riding, VA that I was able to get one. I started researching dog breeds shortly after I knew that I was moving. I wanted either a collie or a labrador retriever. I saw Buddy for the first time on my second visit to the Fairfax County Animal Shelter. I was going back to look at a black labrador I had seen earlier. Buddy was sitting in his cage and caught my eye. He was sad and shy.

Before I knew it, I was leaving the shelter with Buddy on a leash. Our first stop was at PetSmart so I could buy him a collar, leash, dishes, food and treats. Since he was my first dog, I needed everything. I think I made several more trips to various pet stores until I had everything he needed.
Buddy has been a great dog. He stays off the furniture and he always waits until it is time to go out. We don't have a fenced in yard, so he gets three walks around the neighborhood a day. He loves meeting little children and giving them a lick or two.
